Professional Bio

After graduating with a computer science degree from Universidad Simon Bolivar in 2010, I began my career as a software developer working for a local IT company in Barranquilla. Over the years, I've worked on a number of projects for leading companies, including Siemens, Aetna Health, and Benjamin West. Additionally, I've lead development on several greenfield applications, including a custom ERP system for a textile manufacturing company, an app that tracks rainwater runoff on construction sites, a Netflix-like video rental website, flight planning software for the aviation industry, and a full-featured business management system for a leading furniture manufacturing company. I consider myself to be a full stack developer, and am comfortable working with React on the front end and Node, Ruby on Rails, and PHP on the back end. My favorite thing about software consulting is the ability to work on a variety of projects using different technologies, which has helped me mature into an experienced, well-rounded engineer.

Employment History

FullStack Labs Jan 2017 - Present

Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer at FullStack Labs, I wear many hats. I do all the things you'd expect a senior engineer to do — architect applications, build API's, develop pixel perfect UI's and bulletproof servers. But first and foremost, I'm a consultant. I work hand-in-hand with our clients to understand their businesses and the challenges they need to overcome, and I design and develop software that solves their real world problems in an elegant way. I build strong relationships with our clients and develop the high level of trust required for software engagements to be successful. For example, check out this review from chill-n-go, one of my recent projects.

At FullStack Labs, I'm currently working on:

  • Rebuilding the legacy software of Benjamin West, the world's leading furniture and fixtures procurement firm. The outmoded architecture handles every aspect of the company's operations, from customer management to inventory tracking, and the new system is being developed from the ground up in React and Node.js. I've overseen the development of most features, including those for order management, project planing, bidding and quoting, and accounting.

Previously I:

  • Single-handedly built StormLogger, a construction software application that tracks rainwater runoff totals for construction sites to help construction companies comply with state and federal environmental rules and regulations. I chose Ruby on Rails and React for this project.
  • Worked as part of a small team for Siemens to build Spares Advisor, an online marketplace for the power generation industry to buy and sell used parts. (Think eBay for power plants). The team chose Ember, Flask, django, and Python for the tech stack.
  • Lead development of ClassicFlix, a Netflix-like web application that allows users to rent classic movies via DVD mail delivery. This was a vanilla Ruby on Rails app.
  • Built an order management system using Node.js and React for chill-n-go, a company specializing in high-quality wine bags.

  • Using Ember.js to create the app's front-end for patient login and service provider management.
  • Implementing an API microservice to control different aspects of the app such as account creation/management and authentication.
  • Integrating Camunda's workflow library to create visual workflow diagrams for all user points, from finding specialists to post-operative processes.
  • Ensured every component of the app was HIPAA compliant.
