I became a developer not only to learn how computers work but also how to use them to build new things. This led me first to understand and work on the hardware, and after a few jobs in IT positions, I switched to software development to get the full picture.

Client Testimonials

The experience I've had with other firms is in direct contrast to what FullStack did. I'm comparing them with two other firms I worked with in the past. They care a lot about what their clients are doing. They bring their ideas and concepts to the table. I felt like they were on my team. They added a lot of value in terms of ideas and continue to do so. No matter who's working on the project you feel like they care about the work that's being produced.

FullStack Labs' managers have been engaged throughout. The whole project management staffing, matching team to task has been fantastic. All their staff is very committed. I'm very aware of how much bureaucracy there is in the tech world, and we've gotten nothing but solutions. I am totally happy with their approach to everything, their integrity, honesty, the whole thing. It's great.

We were very happy with the way the whole process was facilitated. We started talking to FullStack Labs three months before we signed any contract with them. We met with them in person several times. We wanted to find out what their philosophy is. Both Brian and David are fathers with young children, so they understand the importance of the work we are doing. That shows through in their work. It was obvious they cared deeply.

15 Questions to Ask When Hiring a React Consultancy

1. How much React Consulting experience do you have?

Many consultancies claim to have experience with a large variety of technologies, but in reality their actual experience may be very limited. So make sure to ask specifics, like how many React consulting projects they have completed, how many React consultants they have on staff, etc.

At FullStack Labs, we’ve completed 37 React consulting projects as of December 2020.

2. What kind of previous consulting work and projects have you completed using React?

Once you’ve identified the number of React Consulting projects completed, you’ll want to ask for a few examples of their completed projects. Are they large, complex projects? Or just simple short term projects? Which industries have they worked in? And so on.

At FullStack Labs, we have dedicated portfolio pages that outline several of our previously completed React consulting engagements. To learn more, please visit our React Portfolio Page

3. How do you identify and recruit the best React Consultants?

The best React Consultancies will have a detailed process for consistently identifying, attracting, and recruiting the best React Consultants.

At FullStack Labs, we’ve built a brand as the leading React Consultancy in the USA, which helps us organically attract the best React Developers in the market.

We’ve built this brand by completing high-profile React projects like building a React Native chat application for Uber that was rolled out and used by their entire organization, and building the first major React application for the State of California, the Federal Draw & Reporting Application for the Department of Health Care Services.

We also sponsor several React meetups and React conferences, which helps build our brand in the React community of developers.

Finally, we contribute to open source React work, and contribute to and support Material Bread, a React component library.

Additionally, we have a six-person recruiting team that proactively recruits the best React developers in the market using a variety of recruiting tools. Having recruited React Consultants for many years, we’ve built a very large database of tens of thousands of React Consultants which we can leverage when staffing new projects.

4. How do you hire/screen the best React consultants?

We have a detailed hiring process. To quickly summarize, each one of our React Consultants must pass our rigorous hiring process, which consists of the following four-step process:

  1. Phone Screen - A short 15-minute interview to ensure high-level qualifications.
  2. General Computer Assessment Test - A 60-minute test to measure general computer programming and computer science skills. Candidates must receive a score of 650 to pass.
  3. Interview #1 - An in-depth, 90-minute interview to confirm work experience, skill sets, cultural fit, etc.
  4. Coding challenge - A 90-minute take-home coding challenge, which the developer records and is graded by our CTO.
  5. A final interview with our CTO or CIO.
  6. Background checks and references checks.

5. How do you charge for your React consulting engagements? By the hour, by the project, or another way?

At FullStack Labs, we offer both hourly and project-based React consulting engagements.

For hourly engagements, we track our time using Toggl down to the second. We don’t bill by the day, week, or month, and we don't block bill. For more information on why this is important, check out Comparing Hourly Rates Between Software Consultancies.

6. What are hourly rates for React consultants?

It’s fair to ask for the React Consultancies rate card early in your evaluation process.

We list our rate card on our FAQ page, but here’s a quick summary for Colombia- and Latin America-based React Consultants:

  1. $40 - Junior React Consultant
  2. $50 - Mid-level React Consultant
  3. $60 - Senior React Consultant
  4. $70 - Architect React Consultant

7. What’s a standard react consulting team look like?

Different consultancies can structure teams in different ways.

At FullStack Labs, a standard React consulting team usually consists of:

  1. Two to three React Consultants
  2. Project Manager (part-time)
  3. Quality Assurance Professional (part-time)
  4. Designer (part-time)

For staffing and team augmentation engagements, clients can staff some of positions, like PM, QA, and Design on their own and just have us fill development roles. We’re flexible in how we structure blended teams.

8. Do you offer any guarantees?

Hiring a React Consultancy is a big decision and it's fair to ask what assurances the consultancy can provide to protect you in a downside scenario.

At FullStack Labs, all of our React Consultants come with a two-week risk-free trial. We will place the React Consultant on your project to try them out, and if you’re not happy after the first 10 business days, we’ll remove them from the project and replace them with someone else. You won’t be charged for the trial period.

9. Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

Many React Consultancies do require long term engagements, so you definitely want to ask about your right to cancel.

At FullStack Labs, we offer a 30-day right to cancel on all projects. So you can cancel any time by providing 30 days notice.

10. Do you have references from previous React Consulting clients?

Checking references is always a good idea.

FullStack has a references page where we list 15 or so references as well as in depth interviews with each explaining their experience working with FullStack.

11. How long does it take to get started?

This will often depend on how many React Consultants you need to hire.

At FullStack, we can usually staff one or two consultants within a week or two. For larger engagements, it can take around four weeks or so.

12. How many developers can you provide? If we need to hire dozens of developers, is that an option?

Smaller consultants often have difficulty staffing larger projects.

At FullStack, we have experience staffing larger projects and are capable of staffing 12 developers per month for larger projects.

13. What if we need other types of talent, not just React Consultants?

Smaller consultancies will often have a more limited technical bench.

At FullStack, we’re able to staff a variety of software professionals, including DevOps, Architects, Business Analysts, UI/UX Designers, Project Managers, Quality Assurance Engineers, etc.

14. How do I communicate with my React Consultants?

Communication is always key to the success of a React Consulting engagement.

At FullStack, we primarily use Slack and Zoom for day-to-day communication. We also have daily standups and weekly team meetings, which clients are encouraged to join. All of our professionals speak and write English fluently.

15. Do you have a process for planning and estimating new apps?

A detailed process for designing and building new apps and structuring team augmentations engagements is critical to the success of the project.

At FullStack, we have a detailed process for designing and building new apps,  which we outline in our Design / Build Playbook; and a detailed process for staffing and team augmentation, outlined in our staffing playbook.
