As one of the most popular programming languages out there, it is no surprise that so many companies are looking to hire Python developers and start building their own custom software solutions. However, there’s one inevitable question that always arises in this process: how much should you pay for a Python developer?

As a business, you want to hire the most talented Python engineers and consultants that you can find while achieving a perfect balance in cost-efficiency. That’s exactly why outsourcing Python development became so mainstream a few years ago—and also why outsourcing has become standard practice to develop cost-efficient and high-quality software solutions.

Luckily, you are no longer limited to the local talent pool of your area or even your country. Services like nearshore software development have made it convenient for companies to hire talented Python engineers that work in your time zone, and services like Nearshore Plus even give you the option to hire an on-site team that receives support from nearshore developers.

With all of that said, let’s take a look at how Python developer salaries compare around the US and the rest of the world. You can use this information to determine the best option to hire Python developers.

Average Base Salaries of Python Engineers in the US

Most of the salary information available is for Python developers in the United States. Websites like ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, PayScale, and StackOverflow gather information on this topic regularly, which helps you determine how much you need to pay for Python developers.

ZipRecruiter

According to ZipRecruiter, the average salary of a Python developer in the United States is somewhere around $111,000. However, that rate can go up quite drastically as you factor in seniority. While junior Python developers earn as low as $48,500 per year, senior Python developers average at about $130,268 per year, with top earners earning double or more than that.

Glassdoor

The average salary for a Python engineer in Glassdoor is very similar to ZipRecruiter. Glassdoor reports an average salary of $105,000 for mid-level Python software engineers and an average of $130,268 per year for senior Python developers. However, the average salary for entry-level positions is significantly lower, at $64,000 per year.

PayScale

PayScale reports a median salary of $128,000 per year for senior Python engineers. Mid-level developers, on the other hand, average at a much lower rate than the two previous sites, at just $80,000 per year. Finally, entry-level Python engineers at PayScale report an average of around $66,000 per year.

Indeed

Finally, Indeed reports an average base salary of $128,278 per year or around $61 per hour for senior Python developers. Mid-level engineers, on their part, report an average salary of $108,355 per year or $52 per hour, while the rate for junior engineers goes around $74,417 per year or $36 per hour.

Average Python Salaries by Seniority in the US

Using the data from the previous section, we can compare how Python developer salaries vary according to seniority. More often than not, this will be the most impactful factor in determining the rate of any Python developer.

Site Junior Mid-Level Senior
ZipRecruiter $76,000 $111,000 $130,000
Glassdoor $64,000 $105,000 $130,000
PayScale $66,000 $80,000 $128,000
Indeed $74,000 $107,000 $126,000

As the CEO of FullStack Labs, my primary responsibility is for the management of the company. I manage and directly contribute to many different departments within the company, including recruiting and hiring, marketing and sales, bookkeeping and accounting, tax and legal, and general operations. I take a hands on approach to management, meaning I prefer to roll up my sleeves and work directly on projects, instead of managing through meetings, policy, and bureaucracy. Prior to FullStack Labs, I was Vice President of Sales and Partner at CAE, where we built an industry-leading marketplace for buying and selling used capital equipment. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the California State University Sacramento with a degree in Business Administration.
